SOQUEL, SANTA CRUZ COUNTY — CALIFORNIA58 LOCAL. Soquel Creek Water District began replenishing the Santa Cruz Mid-County Groundwater Basin with advanced purified water on December 1, 2025. The district’s timeline marks that start as a major operational milestone for Pure Water Soquel.
What residents should know
By September 2026, local reporting on the district’s Community Water Plan stated that more than 250 million gallons had been added to the groundwater basin. The figure is a reported cumulative volume at that point, not a verified real-time total for November.
The project treats recycled wastewater through multiple advanced steps before groundwater replenishment, helping reduce aquifer overdraft and resist seawater intrusion along the coast. The district’s groundwater supply supports the Soquel community and nearby service areas.
Protecting the basin is a long-term effort. A large replenishment milestone does not mean drought, seawater intrusion and other supply risks have disappeared, or that every household’s water quality can be inferred from the project.
Residents can review the district’s historical timeline, water quality documents and progress reports for updated milestones and measured performance.
